Thank you for your interest in Moraga Junior Women’s Club.  We’re so happy to have you here!

We are a philanthropic and social club dedicated to improving the lives of women, children, and the elderly in our local community and surrounding areas.  MJWC is a part of the Mt. Diablo District of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs and, nationally, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

History

In the fall of 1969, eight young women met to organize a service club in Moraga. By January 21, 1970, membership doubled and the group became a federated club with the initiation of 17 charter members. As of Jan 2025, there are 27 members of this club! In the beginning, the Junior’s group was sponsored by the Lafayette Women’s Club. Back in the 70s and 80s, MJWC completed two major philanthropic projects: the creation of a Children’s Center Library Fund, totally more than $2,600 that was used to furnish the Children’s Room in the Moraga Library; and the planning, financing, and construction of Moraga’s first children’s park, Climbing Country. MJWC has also directed a Bicycle Safety Day, organized women’s workships, supported alcohol and drug education in schools, and initiated CPR classes in Moraga. In 1978-1979, the Club presented a Halloween Carnival, prepared a historical tea and tour of Moraga, created a puppet show to make children “street wise,” and published a birthday party book.

Membership

Moraga Juniors is entirely run by volunteers like you! We ask that all members commit to being a member for 4 years to ensure continuity and knowledge sharing. Members spend their first year as New Members. After which, they become Active Members.

Members achieve alumni status after 4 years of service, at which time they have full access to our service and social events without any volunteer or financial obligations. We love our alumni and many continue to participate in events and even on our board.

Our year generally runs from September to April with a few activities sprinkled in throughout May to August.
